Just as we do today, evolving civilizations and emerging cultures felt the need to make sense of their existence and bring order to a complex world. From chiefs to god-kings and emperors, we'll take a look at the development of past
hierarchical structures. We'll also trace changing religions throughout this time, especially the movement from mother goddess worship to masculine deities and the theories behind this major transition in early society.
The best stories are hard to forget and so they are passed down through the ages. We'll examine the roots of the great flood myth. Why is that story present in so many cultures, and what did it mean for human civilization? As
populations grew, migrated and advanced, we progressed from villages to cities to empires. We'll look at the tools that both marked and accelerated this progress: walls, roads, bronze, horses and chariots. Also, what does does it
really mean to be civilized? We'll study the horse peoples, or nomadic pastoralists, who would be the bane of 'civilization' for thousands of years.
